Of what use are the artists?

Charles Baudelaire, by many recognized as pioneer of modern poetry, one day was asked by some of his detractors of what practical use could be poets or artists in general, and to put him in difficulty, they compared the society with a sailing ship on which all play a role and are therefore essential from the hub to the helmsman, while the poet is virtually useless. The genius of modern poetry replied that the poet on this ship is the only one able to interpret the stars and give a sense to the indicated course.
